Departure from Brize Norton, the Royal Air Force Air Base. Boarding and night flight to the Falklands, with a technical stop in Cape Verde. Arrival and transfer to a comfortable hotel, where you will have dinner.
Note: Meals not included (excepting dinner on day 2)
After breakfast, you will go to the airport to catch a taxi flight to Saunders Island in the northwest of the Falklands. Saunders Island is a penguin and albatross paradise! The island is inhabited by a small colony of king penguins, Magellanic penguins and rockhopper penguins by the hundreds, as well as by an enormous colony of gentoo penguins. These four species of penguins line the beaches under the amused glances of the magnificent black-browed albatrosses. This little paradise was used by hunters until the 19th century, and it is still possible to find traces of their passage - such as an old cauldron that was used to make animal oil.

Flight to Carcass Island on the far west side of the archipelago and the setting for our next 3 days. Settling in at the comfortable lodge serving refined cuisine, before going out to see colony of king cormorants. On the beach before dinner you can see the black heron, Magellanic oystercatcher, Magellan gull, caracara and Cobb’s wren which nests in the surrounding bushes. In its over 100 years of occupation, Carcass Island has had just three environmentally conscious owners who have avoided the introduction of rats and cats. This lack of predators as well as a concern for protection are immediately visible and should be experienced. Early the next day, you will embark on the Condor for West Point (the westernmost point) which takes around an hour. You will spend the day in the company of black-browed albatrosses and rockhoppers contemplating the landscape as much as the large birds. With around 2000 pairs, the colony is on a rocky cape called the Devil's Nose, covered with tussock grass and blue fescue. You can also explore Mount Aabat and weather permitting, the boat will go completely around the island.
On the second day, you can walk on Leopards Beach and Stanley Hill, which offer magnificent viewpoints from which to photograph wildlife.
Note: The excursion lasts around 8 hours and a picnic lunch is included.
A taxi plane will take you to Sea Lion Island in the south of the archipelago, which is also known as Iles Malouines in French because the first settlers were from Saint Malo. Arrival and transfer to the Lodge, your camp for the next 5 nights. Being the only lodge on Sea Lion Island, you will have the feeling of being all alone in the world...
The Lodge, built in 1986, offers very comfortable rooms. It has 11 rooms, with a total capacity of 20 people. Our hosts will share their tips, stories and personal experiences and remind you about some simple and common sense procedures for approaching the island’s animals and birds.
8 km long and nearly 2 km wide, this island is partially covered with tussac grass, scattered between freshwater ponds, cliffs and white sandy beaches. It is a suitable ecosystem for a large number of animals, which enjoy ideal conditions in which to grow and protect themselves. There is a colony of about 2000 sea lions and around fifty species of birds, plus five species of penguins and killer whales and elephant seals... Among the ornithological species are the elegant dolphin gull, vulture and black-crowned night heron, common snipe, Magellan gull, blackish oystercatcher, rufus-chested plover, Antarctic skua and birds of prey such as Caracara.
For four full days, on foot you will discover all the wealth of fauna and flora the island has to offer. On the coast, the blackish cinclodes (or tussock-bird) will come to see you. You will watch the strange meetings of the Magellanic penguins as well as the return from the sea of the steamer ducks, big flightless sea ducks with coloured beaks. You will discreetly observe the colony of giant petrels hidden on the beach. At the other end of the island, you will be able to photograph a colony of king cormorants and rockhoppers on the top of a cliff. This walk will also be an opportunity to discover the Nassauvia, small flower native to the Falklands and a giant tussock grass which can grow up to 3 meters high and live more than two centuries. On the way, you will pass a colony of sea lions while the austral thrush and the yellow-bridled finch, a small songbird living on Falkland’s moors, will accompany you for a while. Finally, everyone can watch and photograph the striated caracara, one of the rarest raptors in the world, more commonly known here as Johnny Rook.
Return flight to Stanley, the archipelago’s small capital and transfer to the hotel. You have the afternoon free to rest or stroll through Stanley’s right angled streets, lined with houses with red, green and blue roofs. A walk along the jetty is always a pleasure, passing in front of a number of monuments, some of which are vestiges of the era when it was the Iles Malouines.
Departure by vehicle to Volunteer Point, crossing the interior of the Falklands, known as the "Camp", with its completely isolated villages. When you arrive at Volunteer Point, tall silhouettes appear on the long sandy beach – the king penguins. The day is day spent with this colony which, after having come close to extinction, now has around 500 pairs. On the program: photographing the chicks, watching mating rituals, listening and seeing the adults calling, necks outstretched and beaks pointed to the sky... Back to the hotel in the afternoon and the last part of the day is free in the southernmost capital in the world!
Note: Lunch is in the form of a picnic at Volunteer Point.
Early morning transfer to Mount Pleasant Airport, and boarding for your transatlantic flight back to Europe. Arrival the next morning and a connection in London for your flight to France. Meals not included.
Your guide may have to modify the itinerary because of organizational constraints (transportation and accommodation in particular), weather conditions, the level of participants, or any other cause related to the group's security.

Good physical condition and good health are essential to fully enjoy your trip. The practice of the hike, even occasional, is an asset as well as the taste of the life in full nature.

Nights in hotels, bed and breakfast and lodges.
Accommodations, sometimes simple, are all clean, functional, ideally located and traditional. Note that you will be accommodated in double rooms or collective dormitories for some stages. You will be divided according to the filling, men and women separated in the dormitories.
If you have preferences (couples, friends traveling together, etc.), it is important that you notify us at registration. A supplement will be paid before departure if you want a single room (subject to availability).
The local cuisine is inspired by British culture, and of course adapted to local conditions.
A traditional breakfast includes mutton chops, and sausages or bacon with eggs are usually offered to those with a healthy appetite. Lunch may be in the form of a packed lunch or homemade soup with fresh bread. For dinner, locally farmed meat is expertly cooked to bring out its best flavours and is accompanied by locally grown vegetables. Seafood dishes are often trout or sea fish, including the famous Patagonian bass.
Try the famous Smoko! A plate full of homemade cakes, served in the middle of the morning and afternoon, with tea or coffee, a tradition the locals adore...
Rémy Marion will accompany you. As he has been travelling the archipelago since 1990, he knows it like the back of his hand and is currently preparing a film about rockhopper penguins and albatrosses.
English speaking local guides will accompany you at certain stages as well, and drivers will take care of all your transfers.
Rémy Marion is a photographer, author, speaker, guide and member of the Société des Explorateurs Français, a specialist in the polar regions where he has been travelling for over 30 years. By inflatable boat, icebreaker, helicopter, snowmobile, or on snowshoes, attracted like a magnet by the lights in the high latitudes, he is continuously seeking out new territories and new species, from Baffin Island to Ross Sea, via Siberia. Penguins, whales and polar bears are his favourite species and he knows almost all their secrets. Over a hundred trips have enabled him to gather enough observations, photographs and experiments to publish some twenty books and raise public awareness about the fragility of polar environments. He is currently producing a documentary that will be broadcast on France 2 television channel: "Un Été dans les Cinquantièmes Hurlants” (autumn 2018).
An indefatigable traveller in the coldest regions and an internationally recognized expert, Rémy enjoys sharing his emotions with others, whether they are seasoned naturalists or simply curious, and will enhance your adventure with Nomade on the Falkland Islands.
Transport in private 4x4, boats and small planes depending on the stage.
For hikes, you will only carry your personal belongings for the day. Take a backpack large enough to carry a picnic on certain stages.
During visits and hikes, your belongings stay at the accommodation. Since your belongings may be covered and put on the roofs of vehicles or in the back of pick-ups, or stacked in the trunk of the minibus or plane hold, it is better to use bags rather than suitcases.
In addition, avoid leaving your belongings unattended, especially during stopovers.

When you register, be sure to give us the first and last names as shown on your passport, and your date of birth (and not the first name you use or your married name if your passport does not mention them).
The success of any travel in group is a delicate mix of good humor, mutual support and friendship, combined with a spirit of curiosity and respect for local traditions.

11.3 Cas particulier des voyages accompagnés par une personnalité.
Pour certains voyages, l’accompagnateur (chef d’expédition, intervenant, conférencier…) est nommément désigné dans le descriptif du voyage sur le site internet de Nomade Aventure : il s’agit notamment de ceux proposés en partenariat avec la Société des Explorateurs Français et accompagnés par l’un de ses membres, ou de ceux guidés par l’aventurier Evrard Wendenbaum. Sans la présence de cet accompagnateur, ces voyages ne sont généralement pas réalisables, ou ne sauraient, la plupart du temps, posséder le même attrait. Aussi, si par extraordinaire cet accompagnateur était empêché de prendre part au voyage en raison, notamment, d’un cas de force majeure, nous pourrions : soit soumettre à l’ensemble des participants la proposition d’un accompagnateur de substitution et, s’il est agréé par tous, maintenir le voyage ; soit annuler le voyage, et proposer à chaque inscrit le choix entre, d’une part un voyage de substitution avec ajustement éventuel du prix (complément à acquitter ou remboursement du trop-perçu), d’autre part l’annulation pure et simple de l’inscription avec remboursement immédiat des sommes versées. Cette situation exceptionnelle ne saurait en revanche donner lieu au versement de toute autre indemnité.
The currency on the Falkland Islands is the Falkland Island Pound (indexed to the British pound). US dollars are widely accepted and euros can be used in some places. Similarly, some credit and debit cards may be used in some institutions. It is strongly recommended to take money outside of Stanley.
There is only one bank in the Falklands, Standard Chartered Bank (SCB), located on Ross Road in Stanley. It opens every day, from Monday to Friday, until 15h. You can change money, transfer funds and issue cash advances with Visa and Mastercard credit cards. There is no ATM in the islands.
Tips remain subject to your free judgment. However, be aware that these gratfications are very popular. Local guides see it as a sign of thanks for a good job and a good travel. Also, we recommend about $ 3 to $ 5 per day per participant for a guide, half for a driver or cook.

Prepare yourself a personal pharmacy. This should contain your usual medications and add:
• Vitamin C or polyvitamin
• Pain medication: aspirin or equivalent
• Anti-diarrheal (Imodium type ...)
• Intestinal antiseptic (type Ercefuryl ...)
• Broad-spectrum antibiotic treatment: allow 8 days of treatment (on medical prescription)
• Anti-inflammatory ointment
• Eye drops (dust, ophthalmia)
• Purifying tablets for drinking water (Hydroclonazone, Micropur)
• Elastic adhesive tape (Elastoplast)
• Set of adhesive bandages and disinfectant compresses
• Double skin (protection against blisters, available in pharmacy)
• Treatment for colds and sore throats
• Biafine type cream for burns
• Analgesic for persistent headache due to altitude;
• Diamox tablets (on medical prescription).
Note that medications can be purchased without a prescription at Stanley, including painkillers, indigestion remedies, and bandages. If you are taking specific medications, it is strongly recommended to bring enough doses for all the travel. It is a good idea to bring a copy of your prescription if you have it.
If you need medicine at Stanley, you can go to the KEMH pharmacy; but remember that if an item is not part of their stock, it must be ordered fron UK and take a few days to receive it...
Take 2 lugages:
Main Luggage: A soft travel bag or backpack is necessary as they are easy to store in vehicles. This is the bag that moves in the hold of the plane. During the trip, it contains things you do not use during the day.
For some stages, it may be suggested to leave some of your belongings at the hotel for a few days, for an easier logistics.
Hand luggage: a small hiking backpack is essential. During the trip, this bag that you will carry will contain the business of the day: water bottle, camera, etc. Choose it big enough to bring the picnic sometimes.
This is the bag that you take with you in the cabin of the plane. It may be useful to take some things to "survive" for a few days, in case that your large luggage is lost by company (unfortunately, it happens ...), so: shoes for trek, toilet and warm clothes!
Note on your main baggage: 18 to 23 kg maximum per person for checked baggage, according to the airlines. This will be shown on your airline tickets.
Clothing: a Goretex jacket or a warm rain coat; sweaters; wool shirts; trekking trousers; long, warm underwear; and lighter clothes.
Shoes: For hikes, take shoes already ran. Prefer those for mid-mountain hiking. Do not forget to bring another pair to relax, in town or at night.

Afin de parer à toute éventualité, on veillera à disposer d’un passeport comportant le nombre de pages vierges requis ou suffisant (généralement 3, dont 2 en vis-à-vis).
De nouvelles mesures de sécurité sont entrées en vigueur dans les aéroports : les appareils électroniques (smartphones, tablettes, portables…) doivent être chargés et en état de fonctionnement pour tous les vols allant ou passant par les Etats-Unis et Londres. Les agents de contrôle doivent pouvoir les allumer. Par précaution, ayez votre chargeur à portée de main. Si votre appareil est déchargé ou défectueux, il sera confisqué. Cette mesure étant susceptible d’être étendue à d’autres aéroports, nous vous conseillons de charger vos appareils électroniques avant le vol quelle que soit votre destination.
Pas de visa requis pour les ressortissants français, belges ou suisses. Pour les autres nationalités, nous sommes à votre disposition pour vous accompagner dans vos démarches.
All travelers must have travel insurance (including evacuation by air), as well as a return airfare, proof of accommodation and sufficient personal funds for their stay in the islands.
A departure tax must be paid at the boarding of the international airport. At 01/01/2018 cost was £ 22, only in cash (£, $ or €).

Les voyages dans les îles australes britanniques s’effectuant en général en bateau de croisière, donc en milieu fermé où les risques contagieux sont majorés, on peut envisager une vaccination antigrippe.

Local climate is subarctic: strong winds, sky cloudy and unstable, rainfall, and sometimes snow.
Temperature in January is around 12°C, with a high humidity and few rain.
"Biosecurity" try to prevent the introduction of new diseases or invasive species into islands. Visitors are advised to not bring unsafe food,and to check their clothing and equipment.
Risk for foods concern mainly meat, milk, eggs, uncooked vegetables, fruits and seeds. Also, be aware with your shoes.

All communication services are provided by "Sure". If you have a contract phone, you can use the local mobile network with your own SIM card. A local sim card is also available and may be a cheaper option (You just need an unlocked mobile phone).
The mobile coverage is good in Stanley, a little less in the rest of islands.
Stanley has a small number of public payphones that can be used with prepaid cards, available in stores.
There are Wi-Fi in many parts of the islands. A Wi-Fi card is needed.
Abandoning phone and internet for a few days is also a good option, probably the best !
Falklands are 4 hours late with France in January ; when it is 12:00 in Paris, it is 8:00 in Stanley.
On Falklands, electrical current is 240 volts and the electrical outlets are G-type (3-pin, as in the UK).

Randonnées (ou autres activités sportives) de 4h à 5h par jour en moyenne, avec dénivelés (si rando) de 300 à 500 m, sur terrain accessible et peu accidenté. Bonne condition physique requise.
